Keeping all four feet on the floor
The easiest way to get the dog to not jump is to teach them to keep all their feet on the floor.
How to start training the four on floor
- You need to do this in a situation where the dog would normally jump
- Ideally, you catch the moment after the dog thinks about jumping but before he picks up his feet. If you're a little early, that's ok
- Toss some food onto the floor so they scatter a bit
These three steps are in the video below
- If the dog is jumpng on counters, restrict access until he's reasonably reliable about staying off them
- When the dog is changing his focus toward the floor on his own, start fading the scatter by switching to praise and hand delivering the treats
